The validation record

Briggs & Young against an independent annular finned tube bundle

Tier 2: measurement on a controlled rig.

What was compared
The air-side heat transfer coefficient of Briggs and Young's correlation (Kröger, Eq. 5.5.1) on a three-row bi-metal extruded annular finned-tube bundle at Reynolds numbers of 1176 to 4813.
Against
Wind-tunnel measurements on the air cooler of the NHR200-II reactor by Wu et al. (2024, Table 1, Eqs. 38 and 40, Table A1), 131 points with a stated expanded uncertainty at 95% confidence, compared through the authors' fit to 126 of them; a measurement on a rig.
The agreement
The correlation is 1.0 to 6.4% above the measured fit, highest at the bottom of the Reynolds number range, and every point lies within the case's tolerance of 6.8%, the reference's measurement uncertainty and fit deviation combined.
What it shows
The agreement gives Briggs and Young's correlation a measured accuracy on a bundle inside every one of its declared bounds and on data it was not fitted to. It does not cover the pressure-drop correlation (Kröger, Eq. 5.5.6), which lies outside its declared bounds on this bundle.
