ASME PTC 30.1 Appendix K: a 35-cell ACC's fans under a 5 m/s wind
Tier 3: CFD, co-simulation or another model.
- What was compared
- The fan flows of a 35-cell air-cooled steam condenser, five columns of seven fans, under a 5 m/s wind against still air, grouped into the upwind, interior and downwind columns, and the resulting rise in back pressure, computed by Kröger's bank wind method on a borrowed unit.
- Against
- The CFD study in ASME PTC 30.1, Nonmandatory Appendix K (para. K-1, para. K-2 and Tables K-2-1 and K-2-2), which is another model and not a measurement. The case is Tier 3.
- The agreement
- The model's unit flow under the wind is 0.978 of its still-air flow against the CFD's 0.78, 20 points milder; its upwind column is 0.81 against 0.506, its interior stays at the still-air ratio against 0.828, and its downwind column is 1.08 against 0.912. At 78% of the still-air flow the model's back pressure rises from 10 kPa to 12.8 kPa, where the Code estimates about 15 kPa without stating a method.
- What it shows
- The comparison shows that Kröger's bank wind method keeps the interior columns at their still-air flow where this CFD loses flow in every column, a departure He et al. (2013) also show on a 112-cell unit. The unit's geometry, fan and ambient are borrowed because the appendix states none, and the comparison is between two models.
