Kröger Example 9.3.2
The six-bay bank under a 3 m/s wind along its axis
Tier T: a textbook worked example - a published answer, not a measurement.
- What was compared
- The heat transfer rate of the six-bay forced-draft bank of Example 8.3.1 under a 3 m/s wind along its major axis, with the upwind and downwind bay flow factors and the recirculation effectiveness.
- Against
- Kröger's worked Example 9.3.2 (Kröger, Vol. 2, Section 9.3, Figs. 9.3.6 to 9.3.11 after Duvenhage and Kröger, 1996), a published calculation on curves from a CFD study and not a measurement.
- The agreement
- The heat transfer rate of the bank is reproduced to 0.5% below Kröger's 67.546 MW, which is the rounding of his own curve readings, and the recirculating fraction is read as 0.067 against his 0.065.
- What it shows
- The agreement verifies that the model implements Kröger's procedure for a bank under wind along its axis as published. It says nothing about the method's accuracy against a measured bank, and the plume-length blend at oblique wind directions is not exercised.
