Bekker et al. 2022
The induced-draft bank under wind, along and across its axis
Tier 3: CFD, co-simulation or another model.
- What was compared
- The volumetric and thermal effectiveness of a five-by-four induced-draft A-frame air-cooled condenser bank under a wind of 3, 6 and 9 m/s along and across its long axis, and the flow on its wind-facing periphery at 9 m/s.
- Against
- The CFD study of Bekker et al. (2022, Section 3.3) in OpenFOAM, which reports the 20-unit means to the nearest 1%; it is a second model and not a measurement.
- The agreement
- Every published row is reproduced within the case's tolerance of ±0.5%. The agreement holds by construction, because the model's wind method for an induced-draft bank is calibrated on these six points.
- What it shows
- The case verifies that the model carries the study's series, interpolates it linearly in wind speed and blends the two directions by cos2 and sin2; the 45° row is the model's own. It is a self-consistency check and not independent evidence for the effect of wind on an induced-draft bank.
